Appleseed Center Releases HIV Report Card

High HIV infection rates in DC have been a public health crisis for years, and it is no secret that youth and families in DC’s poorest communities continue to suffer disproportionately. The Mayor has indicated that HIV prevention is a top priority for his administration.
The Appleseed Center has released its most recent evaluation of the Health Department and the Mayor’s HIV work. A September 24 Washington Post article by Petula Dvorak examines Appleseed’s findings.
THE DISTRICT government has improved its performance this year in battling the HIV/AIDS epidemic, but the mayor needs to strengthen the city’s public awareness campaign to combat one of the nation’s highest infection rates, according to a report to be released today by a prominent advocacy group.
