Congresswoman Speier visits shelter
29th of July 2010
According to our long-term nonprofit partner Polaris Project, an estimated 200,000 American children are at high-risk for trafficking into the sex industry each year. So it should be no surprise that our outreach teams often engage this most vulnerable population on the streets and refer them to our emergency shelter, the Sasha Bruce House.
We are grateful to Congresswoman Jackie Speier for her attention to this unacceptable phenomenon. The congresswoman visited our shelter on Wednesday evening to learn more about our work in this area and she spoke with several of our teenage girls about their experience.
Let’s be sure other policy makers take action to combat human trafficking in our city and throughout the world. Stay tuned to our website and Facebook pages to hear updates on this important advocacy effort.
