Homeless youth featured on 20/20
10th of February 2011
Youth can find themselves homeless for any number of reasons but one fact remains the same: there is often no way to prepare for the devastating reality of having to live on the streets. A recent 20/20 episode follows four young people; June, George, Rebekah and Dakota, as they deal with the harsh reality of being homeless.
Their circumstances are varied; June’s family cannot accept the fact that she is trans gender, George’s mother drops him off at the bus stop one day for no explicable reason, Rebekah doesn’t get along with her step-dad, and Dakota bounces from friend to friend’s home after her mother abandons her. The whole episode can be viewed on the 20/20 homepage.
SBY works with youth who have become homeless for all types of reasons. We are glad to see the issue of youth homelessness being spotlighted on 20/20 as there are more than two million youth currently homeless in the U.S. Please consider making a donation to SBY to help us keep all of our youth services running so we can continue working with troubled youth and their families.
