Leaders of nonprofit sector inspired by Obama’s visit to SBY
25th of January 2009
Barack Obama’s volunteerism at SBY has highlighted the central role that nonprofits play in our communities. If the economy is to rebound, and if stuggling young people and families are to improve their lives, the work of community based organizations such as SBY will be crucial.
The executives of our region’s top nonprofit associations, Chuck Bean and Tamara Lucas Copeland of the Nonprofit Roundtable of Greater Washington and the Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers, respectively, make this case in a Washington Post Op Ed piece. Inspired by Obama’s call to service, these nonprofit leaders urge local and state governments to sustain funding for safety net providers during this deep recession.
