Music with a purpose
1st of October 2010
If we are to meet our mission to improve the lives of homeless and disconnected youth, we need broad-based support, including partnerships with the corporate sector. One such partnership is with Virgin Mobile USA. For the past couple of months, officials from Virgin Mobile have been recruiting volunteers to work on behalf of our young people, and the Freefest concert at Merriweather Post Pavilion last weekend is one excellent example of a for-profit corporation, musicians and human service nonprofits working together to improve social conditions AND have fun.
Highlights from the concert included strong performances from Joan Jett and Ludacris (to name just two) and greater attention to the needs of homeless youth. Check out David Coggins’ piece in the Huffington Post, and read the remarks of our executive director, Deborah Shore.
