Obama at Sasha Bruce House
19th of January 2009
President-elect Barack Obama today visited the Sasha Bruce House Shelter, spoke with staff and clients and took up a paint brush.
Obama visited the city’s only emergency shelter for homeless youth. He called on all Americans to work hard in service to others, and he demonstrated this work ethic by helping to paint the bedroom for SBY’s runaway youth. Several formerly homeless teens stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the President-elect.

Obama was dressed for work, in jeans and rolled-up sleeves. He told a Washington Post reporter: “I think [Sasha Bruce House] is an example… These young people have a huge potential… Given the crisis we’re in and the hardships so many people are going through, we can’t allow any idle hands. Everybody’s going to have to be involved. Everybody’s going to have to pitch in.”
