Poverty rising in DC
29th of September 2010
While abject poverty is no news to our clients, the rest of the city is clued in today as a Washington Post headline announces the disturbing rise of African American children in poverty.
Statistics in the census released Tuesday state that childhood poverty among African American children in DC is at 43%. This is up from 36% in 2008. The fact of the matter is that the recession has not hit everyone equally as unemployment levels have risen to 30% in Ward 8 alone.
