Rally for Youth Jobs
22nd of March 2010
The recession has hit poor families and youth particularly hard. Join Sasha Bruce Youthwork and our partners Latin American Youth Center and the Alternative Schools Network for a rally demanding federal action to promote youth employment this Tuesday, March 23 at 11:30 am.
WHEN: 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 23, 2010
WHERE: Youth will meet at Stanton Park, corner of Maryland Ave. NE, C St. NE & 4th St. NE
March to: U.S. Senate Steps at U.S. Capitol Building, Washington D.C.
WHY:
Youth employment is a key predictor of future success for both the individual and the community, and directly correlates with youth violence and school dropout rates.
Stimulating the economy – Every dollar earned is an investment in the economy, while also helping individuals and their families.
Preventing violence – Employed youth are engaged in their lives, often preventing them from turning to destructive interactions and illicit activities.
Building a future workforce – Without employment, teens may never obtain the skills and experience they need, crippling their future and overall potential earnings, as well as the future workforce.
