SBY “Going Live” to Raise Awareness of Homelessness
19th of November 2008
According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, more than 1 million youth are living without homes. Yet the plight of homeless youth receives scant coverage by the media and is rarely mentioned by politicians. This is unacceptable, and Sasha Bruce Youthwork has partnered with Virgin Mobile USA to shed light on this travesty.
Virgin Mobile USA was instrumental last year in bringing the issue of youth homelessness to federal policymakers. It recruited singer/songwriter Jewel to join a panel of experts on homelessness, including Sasha Bruce Executive Director Deborah Shore, to testify before Congress and to offer their ideas on how to improve the lives of runaway youth and their families.
Now Sasha Bruce has partnered again with Virgin Mobile on a new online campaign to raise awareness about youth homelessness and funds for organizations working to prevent it – Homeless Youth TV.
“The personal drama found on HYTV is far more moving than your average episode of reality television,” says Ron Faris, Director, Brand Development & Partnerships, Virgin Mobile USA. “Youth homelessness is not something that runs for a season and then goes off the air. Virgin Mobile USA is committed to getting people to pay attention to this important issue.”
Support Sasha Bruce’s emergency shelter and outreach to runaway youth by visiting www.homelessyouthTV.com. Sponsor Project Runaway, or other nonprofits which offer critical safety net services. Small donations mean a lot if enough people participate. Those who sponsor a show will be listed in the show’s credits and have the opportunity to promote the program to friends. Virgin Mobile USA will match the first $10,000 in total donations.
Call Deborah Shore at 202-675-9340 for more information about this exciting new partnership.
