Sasha Bruce Youthwork Rocks FreeFest
15th of September 2011
We were excited to be involved in last week’s FreeFest festival through our partnership with Virgin Unite! Not only were we given a prominent table to educate concert-goers about our services, but our own youth Go-Go Band, Forgiving All My Enemies (F.A.M.E.) performed on one of the stages!
FreeFest is an annual all-day music festival that serves to raise funds for homeless youth organizations like Sasha Bruce Youthwork. Ticket-seekers had to either make a donation towards homeless youth organizations or volunteer with us to earn a ticket to the festival. SBY was able to give tickets to volunteers who helped with a summer youth celebration, a mural-painting project in one of our group homes, and to people who donated hyiene supplies or school supplies.
F.A.M.E. was stoked to get the chance to perform at such a large event, amongst artists like Cee Lo Green, the Black Keys and Deadmau5! SBY staff, volunteers and concert-goers jammed and danced to their music during their inspiring 45-minute set on the “Whooznxt” stage. See pictures from F.A.M.E.s performance on our facebook page.
A mention of Sasha Bruce Youthwork made it into FreeFest coverage when Big Shot Magazine interviewed our Volunteer Coordinator, Renee Forrester, about the event! See the whole article and SBY’s mention here
If you couldn’t make it to FreeFest, you can always support SBY’s work by donating here or by volunteering with us.
