New Grants for Summertime Youth Development Activities

18th of March 2008

The Children and Youth Investment Trust Corporation is an important grant-maker in DC and a strong advocate of positive youth development. We are excited by our recent success in applications to the Trust to deliver two new projects this summer.

Our Summer Youth Service Corps will involve committed or detained youth ages 14-18 in community service projects of their choosing. It will be geared in the short term towards preventing recidivism, and active participants will be paid stipends. Our other grant will support our Summer Enrichment Project. Our work with this group of youth, most of whom are disconnected high school aged teenagers who have received temporary, emergency shelter at our Sasha Bruce House, will be geared in the short term towards addressing summer learning loss as well as job- and college-readiness preparation. Our long-term goals for both sets of young people—and all of our clients—are to help them find safe homes, achieve and maintain good health, create and strengthen supportive and stable families, explore opportunities in education and careers, and become tomorrow’s leaders. For more information about these new projects planned for this summer, contact Jim Beck at 202-675-9340.
