SBY College Tour Featured In Federal Publication
20th of May 2008
Increasing educational opportunities for our clients has always been a top priority at Sasha Bruce. Our annual college tour is one way that we do this.
Our colleget tour has no single, dedicated source of funds, yet it is growing in popularity among the teenagers served at our various programs, and it is receiving national recognition as a “best practice” in our field. This past spring, we visited several historically black colleges in Alabama, Georgia and Florida. Organized by our Educational Network Committee as well as young people who have expressed interest in pursuing post-secondary education, the tour’s aim was to expose youth to admission criteria and college education expectations. We filmed much of this year’s trip…stay tuned to this website for the video release!
The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recently interviewed SBY founder Debby Shore and our educational advocate Erica deBardeleben regarding this year’s tour. Download here and check out page nine of an HHS periodical highlighting our tour and the Chafee Foster Care Independence Program. TLP_ILP_Exchange_May08-2.pdf
