SBY featured in Street Sense newspaper

19th of May 2011

A thoughtful and comprehensive article by Gretchen Grant covering SBY’s history, mission and services, Shelter Provides Hope for Homeless Youth, appears in a recent edition of Street Sense.

Deborah Shore, Jasmine Williams and George Johnson are all quoted in the article, giving the reader a well-rounded perspective of our work.

One way Grant’s article stands apart from other coverage of SBY is that she paid tribute to our Project Safe Place Program, which is often overlooked or misunderstood. Project Safe Place is a national initiative promoting immediate help to youth in emergency situations. Youth who find themselves on the street for any reason can call our emergency hot-line number (202.547.7777) or by take refuge in one of the city’s many Safe Places, designated by the unmistakable yellow Safe Place sign on the outside of the building. SBY staff will pick-up youth at any of these temporary Safe Places at any hour of any day, and transport them to our shelter.

Learn more about Project Safe Place here or by contacting Project Safe Place Program Manager, Lucy Samual via email.
