SBY’s teen pregnancy forums - report released

20th of November 2011

This summer we were asked to conduct a series of forums to gather community members’ ideas related to the roll-out of evidence-based pregnancy prevention services in local schools. We were delighted to take the lead on this. Read our report hot off the press, by clicking here

SBY was selected to lead this endeavor due to our strong track record in evidence-based pregnancy prevention services, and because of our ability to quickly pull together a large number of teenagers and families in Wards 1, 6, 7 & 8 and to elicit their ideas. In short order, we convened and facilitated four forums in order to gain community input regarding pregnancy prevention for area students as well as ways to improve current services for pregnant and parenting teens. A second purpose of this effort was to increase attendance and graduation rates among pregnant and parenting teens, while increasing public awareness about the availability of supports and resources for them.

During August, SBY held forums at Columbia Heights Recreation Center, Ward 1; King Greenleaf Community Center, Ward 6; Richardson Youth Center, Ward 7; and the UPO Petey-Green Center, Ward 8. A final report on this project can be found here: SBY_Teen_Pregnancy_Forums_Report.doc
