SBY featured in Post expose
6th of March 2011
“It’s not just about knocking on doors; it’s about walking inside.”
A Washington Post article by Theresa Vargas examines the idea of using new technologies to track the whereabouts of youth involved in the juvenile justice system.
Vargas interviewed two SBY case managers who work daily with this population, and she shadowed them for a couple of days. Through this interesting expose, the importance of building long-standing, trusting relationships with youth comes through strongly. While it may be true that GPS devices can track young people’s whereabouts reliably, they cannot gauge their feelings or concerns….or address them. It is the power of positive human relationships which creates better opportunities in the lives of youth.
Our approach works: 97% of youth who are diverted to SBY by the courts or the city’s juvenile justice system remain crime-free. Contact the SBY program featured in this article by clicking here
