YouthLed students interviewed at summer jobs rally
23rd of May 2011
Students from SBY’s YouthLed Program were among the hundreds of high school students in the crowd who gathered in front of the Department of Education on Saturday morning to show the government how important having a summer job is to their well-being.
Several YouthLed students were chosen to be interviewed by 9NEWS NOW and wusa9.com. The YouthLed students cited several reasons for why having summer jobs is paramount to their success; including the chance to escape violence in their neighborhoods, the opportunity to save money for their futures and the overall decrease of negativity in their lives. Watch footage of the Rally and the YouthLed students’ interviews here.
In her article on the rally, Delia Goncalves relays the Bureau of Labor’s statistic that 51% of high school students have not been successful in securing a summer job.
