Give Hope to Homeless Youth in DC
Poor children deserve a safe home and the opportunity for healthy lives. Help us transform the despair of homeless youth into hope and bright futures.
We would like to introduce you to a girl in our shelter named Mary. She is sixteen years old. Mary came to us when her mother and grandmother lost their housing. The truth is that Mary is more fortunate than many of the kids at our Sasha Bruce House because she has a loving mother and grandmother living here in Washington. Our dedicated staff are working very hard to strengthen the family and to provide a safe home now and in the future…but let Mary, herself, tell you about this.
“The Sasha Bruce House has helped me and my mother by providing a place for me to stay so I won’t have to live on the streets. Being homeless is hard and sometimes disheartening, but the Sasha Bruce staff is always there to comfort me when I need it. Not just my counselors, but everyone has been concerned about me and mom. Even though it is not their jobs, everyone tries to make us feel better and they are trying to get us an apartment.”

For 35 years, Sasha Bruce Youthwork has offered runaway and abused youth safe alternatives to the dangers of the street through sixteen programs in the District of Columbia. Only SBY provides such a full scope of services, including shelter, housing, outreach and counseling to so many homeless and marginally-housed persons. Our approach is competency-based and family-focused, and our goal is to strengthen families and to help at-risk youth lead healthy lives.

“Sasha Bruce Youthwork holds itself accountable not just for action…but also results. We are driven by a commitment to make a difference in the lives of at-risk youth, families and communities.”
Deborah Shore, Executive Director
There are literally thousands of young people like Mary who need the services provided by Sasha Bruce Youthwork. And I can tell you that, by the time these young people reach us, they have little more than the clothes on their backs and are often burdened by violent and traumatic experiences at home and on the streets. Come with us as we partner with the new administration in Washington to help these young people develop into self-reliant adults with a bright future.
