Only the Beginning

Applause echoed through the British Embassy’s sparkling chandeliers as Jasmine Williams, recipient of the first Evangeline Bruce Award—recognizing leadership and perseverance—concluded her keynote speech.

What I received at Sasha Bruce Youthwork was more than just a place to lay my head, and more than just the help I needed to finish high school. This is a life changing organization, plain and simple, and one of the pillars of my success. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for helping me and the many kids like me who really need this.

Jasmine Williams receiving Evangeline Bruce Award

It was a celebration to commemorate forty years of Sasha Bruce Youthwork; forty years of impact in youth and families, in community, and in city.

Sasha Bruce’s Fundraising Gala was a tremendous success. The night was hosted graciously by the British Ambassador and Lady Westmacott at their residence, and it was the first event to mark SBY’s 40th Anniversary. (We raised over $300,000!)

As the celebration of forty years continues, the call of Sasha Bruce Youthwork has never been more prevalent; safe homes for youth in need, counseling for youth and families, and workforce and skills developement for our community’s future.

To those who have carried the commitment, persistence, and wholehearted care to youth and families, we echo Jasmine’s gratitude; I thank you all from the bottom of my heart, for helping me and the many kids like me who really need this.

Thank you community, staff, and partners. In conjunction with all your hard work, dedication, and time, youth are being served—and served well.
