Join the Experts on June 30th

Homeless and disconnected youth remain some of the most unseen within the homeless population today. Want to learn more? Read on to hear from the experts in Washington D.C.

If the issue of youth homelessness feels irrelevant or hard to understand, we extend an invitation to join experts on June 30th! The Community Foundation for the National Captial Region is putting on a forum to discuss Youth Homelessness, and invites you to join.

Our very own Executive Director, Debby Shore, will be joining the conversation with community members to shed light on her over forty years of experience in the field.

Founding Sasha Bruce Youthwork in 1974, Shore began to serve D.C. youth out of a church basement, but has since expanded the vision to include programs and sites throughout the city, serving homeless youth in need of emergency shelter, as well as youth seeking resources and educational development opportunities. Sasha Bruce House, located on 1022 Maryland Ave NE, is the only youth-specific emergency shelter in the District, and it stands as a flagship program representative of SBY’s roots. Along with this, programs like SBY Workforce Development, which provide workshops and educational resources to disconnected youth 18-24, as well as POWER, which provides sexual health education and HIV testing services, reveal SBY’s commitment to the transforming needs of youth today.

Other notable speakers will include Judith Dittman (Alternative House), Lori Kaplan (LAYC), Jamila Larson (Homeless Children’s Playtime Project), Maggie Riden (DCAYA),
Martha Toll (Butler Family Fund), as well as youth representatives from the Young Women’s Project.
